My First Day as a Member of an Organization
Introduction
How I Got There
To reach the park, I took the Transjakarta bus from the Puri Beta 2 bus stop. Since it was one of my first times using Transjakarta, my older sister kindly went along to accompany me. The trip was estimated to take around 50 minutes without traffic, so we decided to leave at 8:50 AM to avoid the chance of being late. We hopped on Bus No. 13 going towards Tegal Mampang, then switched to Bus No. 4K at Pasar Santa, which would take us directly to Tebet Eco Park bus stop.
As we traveled, I felt excited thinking about meeting the people I’d be working with for the next year. After a long but enjoyable trip, we arrived at the park, and I found the meeting spot where the event was set to start. After a quick goodbye to my sister, who had other plans, I was ready to jump into the new experience.
What I Did There (The Activity)
When I got there, a few people were already there, including some old members and other newcomers like me. We sat in a circle on mats, with lots of trees around us, which felt peaceful. I felt a bit shy at first, but I started talking and introducing myself to the members beside me. I asked friendly questions like where they were from and which division they were in, and soon enough, I found out that a few of them lived near me. We even planned to go home together after the event.
At 10:00 AM, the old members started the session with a warm welcome speech, followed by an introduction session paired with fun games. These ice-breaking activities really helped us feel comfortable and get to know each other better. We laughed, shared stories, and talked about our motivations for joining Swayanaka Jakarta. Through these conversations, I discovered that I was the youngest in the group, which felt like a special position to be in.
After the games, we each wrote down our goals for the year on sticky notes, which we’ll read again at the end of the term.
Then we had lunch together, took a moment to pray, and finished up with a group photo—just like the one you see in the header of this blog! As we said goodbye, I left with my new friends, and we took the Transjakarta bus back home, just as we had planned earlier.
